Guidelines
This report analyses live business issues and the challenges facing a luxury company or sector during this current pandemic and also in the next 2/5/10 years. The methodology, critical thinking, findings and recommendations will suggest how strategic planning can enable the sector or company to succeed, grow or rebuild in some way. The report must propose a feasible strategy by demonstrating an understanding of the general political, economic, social and cultural context of our times as well as the current and projected condition of the chosen luxury sector and the relevant consumer market.
Example 1 A luxury Fashion/Car brand commissions a report into the likely impact of ethical and sustainable issues on their performance in the next 2/5/10 years. What are the key areas of concern and how can your findings lead strategic planning?
Developing the Report from the Proposal
Your project should take into account the feedback from your proposal and any relevant changes in live issues that will affect your investigation.
Methodology and Research – how you approach these areas shows how reliable your report is likely to be so spend some time thinking about it. Make sure you have academic business sources such as those listed in the syllabus by Kapferer. We will discuss this more in the coming classes.
Presentation
General points – Present your report clearly using text, data and images that are referenced in-text using the Harvard System. Ensure that there is critical appraisal of problems and solutions throughout. Images can be used in text or separately in appendices with a title and reference. Structure to Include
1. Cover page with course LBM7105 Emerging and Future Industry Trends, a title and your name.
2. List of Contents with page numbers
3. Summary with Recommendations (similar to an abstract)
4. Introduction – after a short lead-in, give the purpose of your report with aims and proposals for the report’s investigation. State the structure of your report and the order that points will appear
5. Methodology – why and how sources were chosen plus any concepts, theories, points of view that are appropriate.
6. Main body divided by sub-headings to create a clear structure whilst maintaining a logical flow from one section to the next. (These will be different for each student’s report) but normally include –
Context – Background and Present
Subheadings – for Main Content
Findings
Conclusions
Recommendations
7. Bibliography or References – List your sources that have appeared in the text (References), or also include those that you consulted and helped your work (Bibliography), using the Harvard system. This does not use numbers.
8. Appendices – use these for additional information, a glossary or transcriipts of interviews (for privacy and consent issues see university policy and procedure on how to conduct interviews or focus groups). Number Appendix 1., Appendix 2 etc.
