step 1: Before choosing a narrative essay to read, set a purpose for your reading, preview each text, and activate your prior knowledge by thinking about the ideas you came up with in your mindmap. Then make predictions about which (if any) of those ideas you might also encounter in the essay.
Click on a book to read the narrative essay. Be sure to scroll to read the complete essay. Choose from “The Place I Call Home” by Cheryl L. Dukes, “When All of Us are Home” by Sister Mary Scullion or “The Importance of Neighbours” by Curt Columbus.
Which reading strategies did you apply when reading the personal narrative essay? Explain how they helped you understand what you were reading. If you didn’t find it helpful, identify a reading strategy you would try instead next time you were faced with a similar task. How do you think reading strategies can help you in your life outside of school?
step 2: Then use this information to write an information paragraph. Remember to incorporate one or two paraphrases. You will need to cite your sources using an in-text citation just like in the example given in the lesson. At the end of your sentence that you’ve paraphrased, but before the period, put the essay author’s last name in parentheses (these are parentheses). Then put the period. Normally you would also include a page number if possible. You will not need to write down a page number since all the essays are only one-page long. All additional documents/instructions are uploaded
