Final Paper Requirement: When we talk about Arctic environments we’re often pre-occupied by temperature- and questions surrounding the influence of temperature on Arctic systems.In a larger sense, although cold, Arctic environments are also strongly influenced by the amount, nature and timing of precipitation.With reference to what you’ve learned in the course support this view. You may discuss over the timescale you think is most appropriate- ie. late Cenozoic, late Pleistocene, or modern (only need to choose one or two). Suggestion: Beringia or surrounding area is a good place to discuss. Alaska and Yukon are strongly continental. But if we check the mean annual precipitation, some of the region has a very low value of it. That’s why we have Beringia during the plesiocene. It is not because it wasn’t cold enough, it is because it was too dry. And glacier needs moisture to form. However, a specific formation/area of Beringia need to be found and discuss in this Q&A final paper. Other requirements: 500-800 words. References required (suggested at least five but not required).
