1. Do you think the new labels will help consumers make better choices? Cite one credible reference that supports the position that the labels will help consumers make better choices and one credible reference that indicates it will not. (Two references total for this paragraph.)

2. The FDA definition for “healthy” is being modified as a result of the 1/1/2020 updating to food label guidelines. Along with these revisions, the FDA has begun the process to develop a symbol that the food industry can voluntarily use to label food products that meet the updated “healthy” definition. If you were to advise the FDA on a symbol that clearly communicates to consumers that the product is healthy, what would it look like? Consider that it is a clear symbol to consumers, a symbol that is based on science and a symbol that the food industry would be motivated to include. Include a drawing of your proposed symbol. Explain why you chose this to represent healthy.

3. If a label contains 2-3 servings of a food, it will need to have second column that provides the nutrition information for the whole package. This is meant to be useful to consumers. How might this kind of information help with the obesity epidemic in the US? Use one credible reference here to support your position.
