Reading Responses – Students will be given a selection of reading assignment that can be located on
Moodle. You will have one due at the end of every week starting the second week of class. Some of
these readings will be canonical literary works, such as short stories and poems, while others will come
from Globalization. Students are to complete each reading response by the assigned due date (there will
be a total of five). In the reading response, the student is expected to discuss their reaction and feelings
on the selected piece. If you like the work, explain why you are drawn to it and what you found
interesting about it. If you found it to be awful, give your reasons for why you think it is bad. Be certain
to focus on the contents of each piece. This activity serves to strengthen the student’s writing ability
through reading as it places an emphasis on the bond between these two activities. Students will have the
option of selecting, from the list I provide on Moodle, which five works that they read and respond to.
Each reading response is worth 20 points. A ‘Works Cited’ page is required and students are expected to
follow all MLA conventions. Papers are to be typed one-to-two pages double-spaced with 12 point

Times New Roman font and 1.0 margins; no more, no less. A handout with more details for this activity
will be given out to students at the start of the second week of class.
