One of the most impactful assignments I had in my undergraduate degree was to write a paper in an attempt to address the question, “Is healthcare a right, privilege, or responsibility?” I still have that paper and sometimes refer to it. I hope this assignment becomes something you can consistently refer to as you continue your educational and professional endeavors.
Over the course of seven weeks you have (hopefully) learned more about ethics, sustainability, and CSR.
This assignment is the final writing assignment of the course and provides you the opportunity to showcase what you have learned and share your personal insights. Additionally, this assignment will challenge you to continue practicing business writing skills.
The “purpose of business” paper should not be longer than 2 pages and should be written in a professional voice. For writing support, refer to the Boise State Writing Center (Links to an external site.) or the College of Business and Economics Writing Style Guide (Links to an external site.).
Note: if you completed the discussion board posts thoughtfully and thoroughly, a lot of the content you need for this paper is already in publish form.
Content you need to include:
Explain what you believe the purpose of business is by applying ethics, CSR, ESG, and sustainability content.
Provide a recommendation for how your definition regarding the purpose of business can inform how companies operate in the future.
You need to support your observations/insights/recommendations with course content (analyze and apply information to support your answer to the question “What is the purpose of business?”).
Cite course content and other sources (I recommend footnotes or in-text citations, you can use APA or MLA formatting).
As always, I would recommend organizing content with headers and it is important to cite course content or other academic sources.

Ethical Frameworks
When dealing with the frameworks of ethics in business it’s very intuitive to keep a constant reminder of the three that are most important. Utilitarianism, duty based ethics, and virtue ethics. Utilitarianism is the approach that holds that the most ethical choice is the one that will produce the greatest good for the greatest number.Utilitarianism is a teleological theory of morality. Duty based ethics is more of the opposite side of “the greatest good for the greatest number”(Kant 1804). This means that we cannot decide rightness and wrongness by looking at outcomes because they are irrelevant. Virtue Ethics is more in the middle ground between Utilitarianism and duty based ethics Virtue ethics varies significantly from both utilitarianism and duty-based ethics because it focuses on what kind of person we should be, rather than what actions are right.
Ethical Business Decisions
The vast majority of businesses and corporations are dealing with which form of ethics they want to attain.Every example of ethics that was touched on is called upon for its own situations and causes and must be used in that specific situation.WIth these example of ethics, corporations and companies are in the best position to choose how they want to conduct their business and what defines their “success”.
Additional Information
These examples can be used in many different situations in business. It can bring the utmost production and set the company for an incline in revenue. When these ethics are shown throughout the company, it unifies the workplace.
